Released just last year, the LEGO Game Boy set, with its 421 pieces, has become a popular item. But as fans proudly share their completed builds, a common error keeps popping up, much to the amusement (and slight annoyance) of some seasoned LEGO and Nintendo fans.
The set includes two non-playable cartridges that slot into the Game Boy, mirroring the original design. Each cartridge has a special, long piece that should be placed at the end to mimic the offset indent found on the real game cartridges. This design was crucial for making it easier to pull the games out of the Game Boy.
But here's where it gets controversial... If you didn't grow up with a Game Boy or are just going by the pictures, it's easy to place that final piece right in the middle. It seems like the logical place, right? And this is the part most people miss...
Die-hard fans have been quick to point out the mistake. Threads and social media posts are filled with builders admitting they initially got it wrong, even those who owned the original Game Boy!
One Reddit user admitted, "I put it in the center for my first cart, then noticed the proper placement when making the second cart. I didn’t have a Game Boy growing up so didn’t know that was what the carts were supposed to look like." Another LEGO fan expressed their frustration in a Facebook group, stating, "So far, on every [Game Boy] post I've seen the cartridges are being built wrong. Please stop [centralizing] the top tile and offset it so that it has the notch the original GB games have."
Some are surprised by the correction, while others are grateful for the heads-up. But here's the kicker: Even the LEGO box itself might be contributing to the confusion, as one of the pictures depicts the cartridges incorrectly!
