Two videos provide new insights into the events leading up to and following a shooting involving an immigration agent in the Hawthorne neighborhood of north Minneapolis on Wednesday night. One video, a Facebook livestream, captures a 911 call from inside the house, with a woman claiming that her husband, who is present with their child, was shot by the immigration agent as he entered. Another video, taken from across the street, shows federal agents firing multiple shots into the house, breaking a second-floor window. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security clarifies that tear gas, not live rounds, was used. The incident began on Interstate 94, where federal agents attempted to apprehend a man, who then drove towards a house and crashed outside, running towards it. The DHS states that the man, Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, an undocumented Venezuelan national, resisted and assaulted an officer. During the struggle, two individuals from a nearby apartment attacked the officer with a snow shovel and broom handle. Sosa-Celis then struck the officer with a shovel. Fearing for his life, the officer fired a defensive shot, causing the three men to flee into the house. Federal agents arrested all three, and Sosa-Celis and the shooting officer were hospitalized. The Washington Post interviewed Sosa-Celis' mother, who revealed that her son opened the door to his friend, who was later arrested. The Facebook livestream aligns with Sosa-Celis' account, showing the aftermath of the shooting from the perspective of his wife and other house occupants. The 911 call suggests the agent shot the man as he tried to escape, contradicting the DHS's defensive shooting claim. A separate video shows federal agents surrounding the house, firing tear gas, and entering the house, with an observer noting the presence of children. The incident has sparked protests, echoing the recent killing of Renee Good by an ICE officer, which was initially misrepresented by the Trump administration.
